ANTONÍN DVOŘÁK Symphony No. 9 in E minor, "From the New World"

For the foundation of the Orchestre des Jeunes de la Méditerranée, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, its key message was the reconciling through dialogue of the cultures of all those countries bordering the Mediterranean as a necessary contribution to peace. Directed this year by Evan Rogister, the orchestral concert is one of those magisterial meetings that affirm the equality while respecting the individuality of the young, exceptional talents of which this orchestra is made. Running through it is a creativity nourished by the exploration of Mediterranean cultures and language: a unique moment – bringing together cultural heritage, group composition, improvisation, self-expression through speech, and memory – a moment that defies the symphony orchestra’s normal limits and radically redefines the profession of musician. An ideal is born here of a mediterraneity seen in all its diversity, making the OJM the sole artistic force capable of bringing together the different countries, while arousing the enthusiasm of the public.
